Fighters come and go. True warriors are not made in the gym, but are born. However, a committment to gym work, a good trainer, and stable support system is crucial to a fighters success. Neither technique nor strength will help you become a great fighter; the heart of a lion and the soul of a warrior are the main ingredients.

Start out slow in your local gym, sparring and competing in semi-contact competitions. Once you have become proficient at that level, you can progress to local tournaments and gym smokers. After about 3 years of solid training and local competition, I would recommend trying your hand at a regional or national tournament. If you are successful at the national level as an amateur, you have the option of competing at the internation level as an amateur or becoming pro. The key is to take your time, and not to rush your progress. A few early losses, can break a fighters confidence and prematurely retire them from competition.
